Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala

From Puerto Quetzal, we did the “Antigua on Your Own” tour. It was a long drive to Antigua and we were a bit late coming back to the ship (but we weren’t the last one.) Antigua was beautiful and the ruins were interesting.

Large buses can’t get inside Antigua, so the bus dropped us off just outside of the town and took us into the city in a mini bus. They dropped us off at a jade shop/museum, and we were free to roam after that. Most of the sights were within walking distance. We may or may not have had enough time to go to Hill of the Cross, but we didn’t try.

The jade store had an interesting museum, as well as a factory, so you may want to take a look at that, even if you have no interest in buying jade.
